Gregg Ziebell

 

Bio

A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a major in Fine Arts, I continued studies at Cincinnati's GSAA Advertising Art School, graduating in Advertising Art, Layout and Design. I worked for many years as a graphic designer in fashion layout and design before discovering that it was painting that would be a big passion in life. Contemporary artists of the 80's, such as Patrick Nagel, were a big inspiration. While I was living in Dallas in the 80's and early 90's, I was part of the surge of new contemporary artists showing works in the Deep Ellum inner-city section of town. I've shown works in Cincinnati, Dallas and Stamford CT. 

 

Artist Statement

I describe my work as contemporary impressionism. I see things in real life and add an impressionistic twist to them to provoke an emotional response. My goal with my art is to share the joy I experience while creating, with the viewers of my pieces.

 

Marc Zaref

About
Marc Zaref earned his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. His formal study in fine art began in his early teens attending the Art Student’s League, NY. There, he developed his drawing skills with a focus on traditional figure drawing and anatomy. Zaref’s lifelong explorations in sculpture flourished in recent years, studying metalworking, fabrication at The Silvermine School of Art, CT and traditional blacksmithing at The Center for Metal Arts, NY. Zaref’s background as a designer in the world of museums and galleries gives him an understanding of partnership and collaboration. His role in the curatorial planning and execution of major exhibitions, from creating monographic, thematic, and period-specific books, to designing exhibition spaces, exposed him to meaningful visual influences and experiences.

Artists Statement
As a multidisciplinary artist, I am known to some as a sculptor, others as a painter or designer. Drawing is the foundation of my processes, and is apparent in my work on paper through playful assemblages of forged and welded steel. My broad range of skills are paired with a comfort and knowledge of working with an extensive palette of methods and materials. This enables me to freely articulate my ideas and expressions in two and three dimensions.

Virginia Zimmerman

 

About

Virginia Zimmermann is an artist working in a variety of media ranging from drawing, painting, printmaking, to mixed media/collage. She earned her B.F.A. from Parsons School of Design and her M.S. Ed./Sixth Year from Southern Connecticut State University. Virginia is an experienced artist/art educator currently teaching in the Fairfield School System. She has taught various workshops in both North Dakota and Connecticut. Her works have been exhibited in solo, group and traveling exhibitions, and are held in private collections. She was a finalist for the Tassy Walden Award – Children’s Illustration, 2015. In 2017 she was awarded a REGI Grant supported in part by the Cultural Alliance of Western Connecticut in partnership with the CT Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.  For the grant she painted the 590’ Welcome to Newtown Mural on Church Hill Road in Newtown.

 

Artist Statement

Reaction happens in a flash, a flicker of synapse, or a loaded moment of hesitation, and it transforms into a connection. Betwixt and between the connections and reactions lies a tangible energy, which fascinates and drives me to capture, create and interpret. This energy is ethereal and compelling.  It offers a movable feast of possibilities. Creating is a magnificent puzzle, which comes without directions, whose solutions are the result of an exploration into the possible. The subject matter is only the beginning.  Equally important is the combination of compelling forces: a particular time of day, an atmospheric light that is just so, shapes and colors that beckon to be noted or a particular location. My art is at the crossroad between dreams and reality. It weaves a narrative for the viewer to explore, interact with and enjoy.

Florence Zolan

 

About

Florence Zolan is a founding member of ArtPlace Gallery. Early studies were at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon. In New York City, art studies continued at Pratt Manhattan Graphic Center,and The New School, where she studied with Richard Poussette-Dart, John Ross and Minoru Kawabata. She received her MFA at Hunter College studying with Tony Smith.Zolan taught school in New Rochelle and print classes at the Museum of Modern Art with Sol Lewitt. She continued studies in CT at Silvermine Guild where she is an artist member. She has exhibited statewide in many juried and invitational shows and is represented in corporate and private collections throughout the US.   Zolan is on the curatorial committee of the Kershner Gallery in the Fairfield Public Library.

 

Artist Statement

My work is concerned with relationships. There are the actual and the implied relationships in the arrangements of form, object, and color. I enjoy working with contrasts; a smooth surface against rough, patterns next to solids, soft edges as well as sharp. These effects are expressed in various media. Oil, collage, pastel, various forms of printmaking, and often a combination of these plus random objects are used. The complexity of creating these relationships is a constant challenge and pleasure.
